We’re all for guys building a wardrobe full of classic, “never going out of style” pieces here at SG HQ, but sometimes a trend simply refused to be ignored.

Case in point: the jogger pant. 

A year ago, only a few fashion-forward brands offered the pant with an elasticized ankle (and for way too much money, at that). Now, finding a pair is as easy – and inexpensive – as hitting up your local mall’s racks.

The beauty of the jogger pant lies is twofold:

1) They’re basically dressed-up sweatpants, meaning you can wear your formerly “only at home” comfy pants out of the house, and no one will judge you.

2) They go with pretty much everything that’s already in your closet. The style is so mainstream that at this point you can find joggers offered in nearly any material you can think of – denim, khaki, terry cloth, etc. If you don’t want to wear real pants, it’s time you jump on the jogger pant bandwagon.

There’s something about the rockabilly look that just oozes cool. Perhaps it’s because of all the iconic imagery left behind of musicians who have channelled the style throughout time. Or perhaps it’s due to the edgier modern update we see today, tattoos and all. Either way, the spirit of the rockabilly is hard to match.

With rockabilly-inspired style resurfacing across the runway and high street in recent times, we’re happy to call the look a trend for AW14.

On The AW14 Runway

Hedi Slimane sent rockabilly-inspired sequinned jackets down the runway in Saint Lauren’s AW14 show at Paris Fashion Week, confidently confirming the revival of the retro trend. Leather biker jackets, skinny black drainpipe jeans and chunky creepers were also key elements in the collection.

The most memorable (and unequivocally rockabilly) piece in the brand’s winter line had to be the statement red biker. Featuring leopard print detailing and styled with skinny jeans, pointed footwear and a quiff – you just couldn’t get more rockabilly than this.

Elsewhere, Lou Dalton subtly tipped its hat to the trend with a faded denim jacket teamed with jeans and black boots; Ovadia & Sons included black leather bikers with leopard print sleeves; and the dark indigo denim found in DSquared2’s AW14 collection had an undeniable American rockabilly vibe:

We’ve given you plenty of inspiration for switching up your personal style in 2015. But what about that all-important and ever-present accessory: your hair?

1. Make Waves

There are several ways to get a wavier look, though a large part of a wavy style’s success is dependent on how straight your hair is to begin with.

Start by applying a sea salt spray or texturising lotion to towel dry hair. Next, you could try blow drying with a hair diffuser, which will help to form waves as part of the drying process. A diffuser is a hair dryer attachment that – unsurprisingly – diffuses the air the dryer emits, allowing it to spread softly through the hair rather than blasting it full-on.

You should aim to get the diffuser as close to the root area as possible and slowly rotate the dryer to create the movement. You’ll also want to select a low speed setting to avoid creating a big fluffy head of hair. If you don’t have a diffuser at your disposal, use a hair dryer, again set at a low speed, and simply scrunch your hair with your hand to create the desired movement.

If it’s a more structured wave you’re after, then a ghd Mini Styler works particularly well, even on short hair. What’s key here is that you’re painstakingly methodical in the way that you manipulate the hair using the styler, taking care not to twist too tight or your hair will appear curly rather than wavy. Starting at the root area, twist the styler down the hair shaft to achieve the wave.

If using an electrical styler on a regular basis seems like more hassle than it’s worth, then there’s also the option of getting your hair permed. Yes, I did just say that. And no, I know you’re not trying out for the latest stage production of Fame. It sounds terrifying but having your hair permed on a large perm rod would not only create an exceptional wave, it’d also ensure your hair stays wavy until the perm grows out. Remember, the larger the rod the looser the wave. Speak to your stylist to see if it would be suitable for your hair.

Once you’ve laid the foundations, you can further accentuate your waves by using the right styling product; we recommend Fat Hed by Fudge, Easy Rider/Night Rider by Kevin Murphy or L’Oreal’s Deviation Paste. Try scrunching in a little at the root area to give your waves optimal support.

These are an everyday essential for me. I used to be a brown suede desert boots type of guy, but they just weren’t a sustainable option.

Suede already gets a bad rap for being a delicate material, but when it comes to a night out it really is impractical. Have you ever tried cleaning suede hungover on a Sunday? Why do it when you can avoid it?

Chukkas are near enough the exact same height, shape and size as a desert boot, but more suited to the evening, especially in black or brown leather. They can be dressed up or down effortlessly and look superb matched with dark denim, grey chinos or tweed trousers.
