5 Of The Best Niche Men’s Fragrances

5 Of The Best Niche Men’s Fragrances

Distinct And Original
These days, you shouldn’t have to rely on TV adverts or his and hers gift packs in department stores to guide you to a new fragrance.
When it comes to matters of the nose, the real story is in the bold scents being created by niche fragrance houses and perfumers, which are fast becoming favoured over mass-produced, designer alternatives.
For the style-conscious male, curating a distinct fragrance collection is just as important as developing an individual personal style. After all, these scents have the power to become a trademark of your ‘look’, which extends well beyond the clothes you wear to your hair, grooming and even manners.
Wear a boutique or rare fragrance and you send out a message that you value individuality, exclusivity and craftsmanship. In short, that you’re gentleman and a connoisseur.
To help guide you toward your new signature scent, we’ve identified five new high-end fragrances that are well worth a sniff this season:
Helmut Lang Cuiron
Helmut Lang fragrances quickly developed a cult following in the early noughties, becoming popular with fashion editors and students alike, until they were shelved in 2005, following the departure of the designer from his namesake house.
However, fans of the original scents rejoice – the series of three fragrances was re-released at the end of 2014, and each is inspiring a new audience with its delightfully minimal mix of ingredients.
Cuiron is our favourite with its cuttingly fresh scent – ideal for spring/summer.
In The Mix: Leather, bergamot, mandarin and pink peppercorn.
Available at Liberty, priced £120 for 100ml.

Laboratory Perfumes ‘Tonka’
UK fragrance brand Laboratory Perfumes
quickly built a reputation for itself with its first three scents, which were inspired by the British Isles.
Now, though, the homegrown label has turned its attention to South America for its latest fragrance: Tonka. This is a seriously warm and earthy fragrance that doesn’t just have to be worn by men. In fact, all Laboratory Perfume scents are designed to be unisex.
To mark the launch, the brand has released 1,000 bottles in limited edition blue packaging.
In The Mix: Tonka bean, woodland spices, pink peppercorn and mandarin.
Available in store at Liberty London and The Yorkshire Soap Company, as well as online at laboratoryperfumes.com, priced £65 for 100ml.

Escentric Molecules 03
A product of internationally renowned nose and fragrance designer Geza Schoen, Escentric Molecules originally launched exclusively with Harvey Nichols but has since gone on to garner international success and stockists worldwide.
Last year the company launched 03, the latest addition to its instantly recognisable series of scents.
In The Mix: The brand is extremely secretive about its ingredients, but this one features heavy vetiver oil, which makes it earthy and slightly woody.
Available at Cult Beauty, priced £69.50 for 100ml.

4. Floris ‘Honey Oud’
Floris is a British family-run business has been producing high quality fragrances since 1730. Today, the company is considered one of the most prestigious fragrance houses in the world, producing luxury scents for men and women.
If you’re a fan of oud-based scents, then this one should be right up your street.
In fact, it’s so refined and masculine that you’ll feel like you’re opening a bottle of vintage whiskey as opposed to a spray on a fragrance.
In The Mix: Oud, musk, amber, vanilla and rose.
Available at Floris London, priced £160 for 100ml.

5. Byredo ‘Mojave Ghost’
Founded by Stockholm-based Ben Gorham, Byredo is another niche brand that’s become a hit with high-end department stores and fans of upmarket fragrance houses.
The label added Mojave Ghost to its wonderfully diverse family of signature scents last year, and it’s become an instant must-own for both genders.
Inspired by the Mojave desert, the fragrance is distinct and warming, so no wonder it has enticed women too.
In The Mix: Cedarwood, Chantilly Musk, violet, sandalwood and Jamaican nesberry.
Available at Selfridges & Byredo, priced £130 for 100ml.
